Hi all,

I have a MySQL database in a server with some tables I'd like to download to an Excel 2013 spreadhseet.

I'd like this connection to be "live", that is, whenever the tables are updated in MySQL, the spreadsheet should be able to refresh the data.

I have installed MySQL Connector 6.6.5 and in Excel I go to "Data Explorer" , "Get External Data from MySQL", type in the host name and databse name and get the error:

DataSource.NotFound: MySQL: Unable to find a database provider with invariant name 'MySql.Data.MySqlClient'.
This error may have been the result of provider-specific client software being required but missing on this computer. To download client software for this provider, visit the following site and choose at minimum 'MySQL Connector/Net': http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=278885 Details: null

I have installed the driver countless times and restarted my PC over and over, but I always get this error.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

MySQL for Excel 1.1.1 (GA) has been released (1 reply)

The MySQL Windows Experience Team is proud to announce the release of MySQL for Excel version 1.1.1 GA, the latest addition to the MySQL Installer for Windows.

MySQL for Excel enables you to directly work with a MySQL database from within Microsoft Excel so you can easily do tasks such as:
• Importing MySQL Data into Excel
• Exporting Excel data directly into MySQL to a new or existing table
• Editing MySQL data directly within Excel

You can download it from our official Downloads page at:
http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/installer/.

Version 1.1.1 is a maintenance release that contains the following bug fixes:

• Added code to check for changes on the contents of the currently selected Excel cells, so if the contents become empty the Export and Append data actions are disabled in the same way as they are disabled when a new cells selection is made and they contain no data. (Bug #16495151 - EXPORT TABLE LINK IS NOT DISABLED WHEN DATA IS DELETED)

• Added code to clear the format of a target Excel range where MySQL data is to be imported to before copying the values to the Excel range so the format applied to the Excel cells from a previous import operation does not corrupt the format of newly imported data. (Bug #16495155 - DATA GETS CORRUPTED WHEN CELL FORMAT IS DIFFERENT THAN DATA EXPORTED)

• Fixed logic that detects data types for columns to check for empty columns instead of excluded ones and properly assigning the default generic data type of varchar(255) to empty columns as per design. (Bug #16495493 - EXPORT DATA - DATA TYPE FOR EMPTY COLUMNS IS NOT AUTO-DETECTED)

• Fixed code that detected data types for columns for the scenario where only 1 row of Excel data is selected for Export or for Append, in which case the data type was always being set as a varchar(255) which is used when data types between rows are not consistent. (Bug #16493139 - AUTOMATIC MAPPING NOT WORKING)

• Added a parameter to the LoadConnections method that refreshes connections from its corresponding file, set to true when the the Refresh Connections action is performed. (Bug #16493129 - CONNECTION DETAILS NOT REFRESHED)

• Added code to prevent the connections, schemas and DB objects lists from drawing while they are being filled with items. (Bug #16392862 - CONNECTIONS LIST FLICKERS WHEN A CONNECTION IS DELETED OR ADDED)

• Added performance_schema to the list of system schemas, so now it shows along with the mysql and information_schema schemas list. (Bug #16473033 - PERFORMANCE_SCHEMA NOT LISTED UNDER "SYSTEM SCHEMAS" GROUP)

• Added code that converts numbers to invariant culture strings when building the SQL statements used to push queries to the MySQL Server. (MySql bug #67663, Bug #15903921 - USING MYSQL FOR EXCEL IN FRANCE)

• Removed code that always forced the FirstDisplayedScrollingColumnIndex of the preview grid to the currently selected column every time the First Row Contains Column Names checkbox is checked or unchecked. (Bug #16419402 - EXPORT DATA FREEZES WHEN SWITCHING HEADERS ROW)

• Set the CreateIndex property value in each new column to be exported immediately after the column data type's is auto-detected. (Bug #16238445 - EXPORT DATA - CREATE INDEX CHECKBOX IS NOT AUTO-CHECKED ON DATATYPE DETECTION)

• Moved logic that handles Table and Column values and warnings from Export Form (frontend) to MySQLDataTable and MySQLDataColumn classes (backend). (Bug #16397637 - EXPORT DATA - FOCUS GOES TO FIRST COLUMN WHEN EXCLUDING ANY OTHER COLUMN)

• Added code to expand each of the connection group nodes after they are initialized with existing connections. (Bug #16238782 - REMOTE CONNECTIONS SHOULD BE EXPANDED ON THE WELCOME PANEL)

• The context menu opened by right-clicking the preview grid in the Import Data Form is now showing context menu actions depending on the number of selected columns as follows:
o Select All: Visible when # of selected columns < total columns
o Select None: Visible when # of selected columns > 0
(Bug #16238663 - IMPORT DATA - CONTEXT MENU SHOULD SMARTLY SHOW SELECT ACTIONS)

• Removed the code that disabled the whole preview grid when the Import Form was used within an Edit Data operation, the disabling of the preview grid was disabling the horizontal scrollbar as well. Now the grid is not disabled but columns selection in the grid is cancelled when the Import Form is used by Edit Data which was the original intention since in Edit Data all columns must be imported to the worksheet. Disabled the context menu for the grid as well in this scenario. (Bug #16239011 - EDIT DATA - IMPORT DIALOG'S PREVIEW GRID HAS HORIZONTAL SCROLLBAR DISABLED)

• Added a link in the Welcome Panel to open an About box displaying the MySQLfor Excel version and copyright text. The About box can be closed by clicking on it or pressing the ESC key.(Bug #16238860 - MYSQL FOR EXCEL VERSION NOT VISIBLE UNLESS GOING TO ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS)

Hi Guys,

I'm trying to connect to my Database using the following code found on the net.

Server=myServerAddress;Database=myDataBase;Uid=myUsername;Pwd=myPassword;

As mentioned in the title of this topic I am using MySQL. If someone who is familiar with MySQL could please help me by telling me where to find 'myServerAddress' and 'myDataBase' within MySQL.

I am getting confused with the terminology as VBA and MySQL use different terminology for these. Is 'myDataBase' the name of the EER Model, and is 'myServerAddress' simply 'localhost' for a server running from the same machine as VBA?

I have an Excel sheet that has around 40 embeded mysql queries, and each one produces a table that is determined by two dates. Currently, if the date range needs to be changed, I have to edit each query individually. What I want to do, if have the queries reference two cells in the Excel spreadsheet so that I can put in the 'TO DATE' in Cell A1 and the 'FROM DATE' in cell A2 and the query then references those fields.
Is this possible?

I'm connected to MySQL for Excel 1.1.0 and I am able to edit data and commit single items to the database succesfully.

I've got around 25k plus entries in one of the tables and I want to bulk ammend some of the entries and then commit the changes, this is when the message arrives saying the document is password protected, the sort feature in excel is also disabled as you would expect with a protected document.

Here's my ploblem:

# The excel document that connects with MySQL is password protected and I didn't set it and don't have a password to unlock the document, I've tried all the associated passwords i know but non of them work so i guess it's being set by mysql or excel.
# although the document is protected i can alter individual fields and commit to MySQL successfully. I need to unlock the Excel document whilst connected to MySQL so I can make lots of changes as required.

Any help would be appreciated.
Craig

After much deliberation I think when Excel is connected to MySql it is actually MySql that's being viewed which is why the filters aren't working, if I copy the data from the connection to a new workbook all the filters are available.

With that in mind i should be able to log into the MySql control panel apply sort at the db end and then view and edit etc using Excel.

I have searched high and low and have not found a great answer. Maybe someone here can assist?

The low-down:

CSV file database export with category names from my ecommerce site.

column 1 (Name) column 2 (ID)
super soakers 153
shoes 188
bottles 297

CSV file import file

column 1 (ID) column 2 (product name)
super soakers Big Super Soaker
shoes Black shoe with no laces
bottles Jim Beam Bottle

The need:
I need for file 2 (the import file) to know and change the value of column 1 to be the value of column 1 in the file 1 (export file) so that the 5k products that I have with over 200 categories can be done in one quick swoop.

ideas?

I'm willing to create random columns with the column 1 and 2 from file 1 into file 2 just so I dont have to search in other sheets or files.

The outcome (import):
column 1 (ID) column 2 (product name)
153 Big Super Soaker
188 Black shoe with no laces

Hello all,
imagine a Excel spreadsheet like this:

1 xyz "=IF(ISERROR(SEARCH("xyz",$A1,1)),0,1)"
.

Is this somehow possible to implement in MySQL?
i click on ODBC DSN, and I am shown the one i just created.
there i tick the radio button "Use data source name", and from the menu choose the right one, and i enter the user name and password.

i have just installed on windows the full package and trying the MySQL for excel.
I have managed to connect, and I see the standard sakila database etc.
But following the documentation I see it mentions a butto "Edit MySQL Data" which I do not have - I have only Import MySQL Data.
Also it shows a grey box with MySQL for Excel, AutoCommit,Revert Data, Commit Changes
which I do not have.
If I press "import MySQL Data" I get hard coded data, not a real connection, so I cannot refresh it if I edit it...

Clearly I must have done something wrong, hopefully just a configuration flag somewhere?
Looking forward to your help

I need Excel to surround all fields with double quotes, and then deliminiate each field with a comma. The only fields I don't need encapsulated in double-quotes are numeric fields.
Example (I need the following):
Instead of:
JSMITH,JOHN,SMITH,1

Hi,

I have a system VBA based that uses an MySQL Database. I have a lot of forms (ActiveX) that selects columns, data, dates, etc. to fill a table that in the end will become a accountability report.

The problem: This spreadsheet often jams and crashes Excel without showing any debug problem. Goes straight to "Send report to Microsoft". I know that it occurs sometime when run a macro that updates all queries in the workbook.

Does anyone had any problem like this? I just can't find out why sometimes it crashes my excel and sometimes don't, works completely ok!

I suspect it could be a physical network problem (PC - server), but if it was it, how would it work sometimes? I thought also that maybe this machine isn't powerful enough, but again, a Pentium 4 3gh 2gb ram shouldn't crash like this. Isn't the best one, but far from the worst I worked on.

any ideas? please, help me!!

thanks!!

Just for record, I use codes like this ones:

last_insert_id and VBA Excel (1 reply)

I need to insert a record into a MySql table. It is based upon a row in an Excel spreadsheet.

I then need to get the PK of the record I just inserted and put that value into a cell on the spreadsheet.

So my SQL statements are something like

INSERT INTO myTable (field1,field2) VALUES (value1,value2);
SELECT last_insert_id;

Could somebody please provide some VBA code that could be used to execute the second statement and store it someplace that I can use with
CELLS(row,column).value = the new PK.

Thanks to all...........Rich
