I'm a web dev by trade and was interested in doing the Mysql5 OCP cert. I've aready got some Zend / MS certs in the bag but wanted to complete the trinity and get some sql certs.

I was wondering if there are legitimate secondary market sources eg sites that sell short dated vouchers like getcertified4less that retail short dated Oracle vouchers or any ways for developers to get discounts legimately if their company doesn't have OPN status.

I appreciate that there is a crack down on Exam fraud and it's the same for all IT exam providers but the OCP exam at 2 exams of £131 + VAT seems somewhat costly if you compare it against other exams like the Zend PHP ones.

For £300 I could get 2 - 3 MS certs or 2 Zend certs for the same price so it makes hard to justify the cost.

If the price is the price then thats fair enough but at the current price level it just seems a bit overpriced to me and would get better value for money doing certs from other providers.

I wanna prepare for the DBA exam.

So is the book still valid, I see that the question was asked before but being the book 8 years old I wanted to make sure I can use it before spending the money on the book.

Also, I wanted to ask because I saw a new book by Oracle so I don't know if things have changed. The book is: Oca/Ocp MySQL Database Administrator All-In-One Exam Guide

Also could you guys tell me if I have to take the Associate exam before taking the DBA exam or I can apply directly for the DBA exam ?

I am hoping someone more experienced on this forum can give me advice on what I should be doing next to further my education to make myself more appealing to employers.

Background-

I don't have any work related experience in computer science. I have been in finance since college (I just turned 28). I have a BS in computer science and a BA in management.

I'm working on a small website right now- 1 database, 4 tables, 1811 total rows of information (selling art). I'm doing the HTML, CSS, trying to teach myself phpMyAdmin and all the necessary PHP. I'm hoping that I can add that to my resume once I complete the website.

All that being said, is a certification in PHP my next step? I'm afraid if I get the DBA certification without any relevent work experience I will be in much the same position I am now.

I've had a heck of a time trying to catch the attention of staffing agencies in Austin, TX where I live.

If anyone could offer some advice I am extremely appreciative.

I'm planning to study for the MySQL 5 Developer Certified Professional Exam, Parts 1+2. Due to the amount of material, I guestimate this will take 2 -3

My only concern is that whilst I'm studying the exams change, or become discontinued.

Also I would be interested to know if anyone else has completed these exams via self study?

I have a few quick questions in relation to the MySQL Associate exam software if anyone can help.

1. When taking the exam do you get a chance to review your questions and make changes?

2. Does negative marking apply in the exam?

3. On the world.sql download page it states that the database is used for trainning and certification. I have a question about the Paul DuBois' Study Guide. I'm new with MySQL, but I had some SQL and relational database training and am familiar with Microsoft Access. I'm planning to take the MySQL 5.0 Developer I exam first. Do I need to study the other three sections in the book besides the section designated for the first exam?

Identify the potential problem with this query

I have a question about the Self-Study CD. I just received a copy and wanted to start the training "MySql for database administrators". But I have a problem with the CD (Downloaded from edelivery) When I follow the cources my progess is not saved. If I close the course next time I open it the course progress is gone and I have to start all over again. Can you help me? or can you give me some information where I can find an answer to my problemen?

I previously posted this message in the wrong forum (Docs), my apologies.

As I've noticed in other posts, I find myself in the same situation where I have copy of the MySQL 5.0 Certification Guide but do not have a copy of the CD that comes attached with the study guide...

I intend on writing both Developer Exams.

I believe that understanding the practice questions posed on the CD is a good way of preparing myself for the exams.

I would really appreciate any help in finding the contents of the CD.

I have been a user of MySQL for a bit now, and decided to pursue the appropriate certifications. Towards that end I have purchased the Paul Dubois book.

I have a couple of quick questions. First, the book mentions several pertinent URLs that no longer seem to be correct. Does anyone have a list of the new URLs? For instance, the Candidate Guide mentioned in the book Introduction, listed at www.mysql.com/certification/candguide, seems to just be the same content as www.mysql.com/certification.

Second, the book is divided into four sections aimed at the MySQL Developer I and II exams, and the MySQL DBA I and II exams. But the certification web site lists the Certified Associate exam, a single Developer exam, a Database Administrator exam, and a Cluster Database Administrator exam. Do the four book sections correspond to those? If not, would someone be kind enough to list the relevant sections for the Associate exam?

Third, do the skills required for each exam build on the skills for the prior exam? That would be nice as the skills to pass one exam are then applicable to the next and retained through repetition.

Finally, the book has content devoted to MySQL Query Browser and MySQL Administrator, but doesn't seem to mention MySQL Workbench. Is this significant? I've used all three, and am comfortable with all three, but I seem to discover new functionality with Workbench with every new project, so if necessary I will devote a bit of time to learning it in more depth, but I don't want to concentrate effort where it is not needed.

Can anyone tell me if it is worth doing the Certified Associate Exam. Is it a big step up to the administrator/developer exams. I intend doing one of these but is the associate exam a good stepping stone?

Also is the associate exam a straight forward multiple choice format?

I found couple of testing centers in city for Pearson Vue but those are not offering MySQL certification courses.
