old timestamps?

Hi everyone,
just a short question: is there a way to force mysql-version 4.1 and above to use old style timestamps by default?
I've got plenty of scripts using the old format and I don't want to go back to an old version of mysql ...
I'm aware of SELECT Birthday+0 AS Birthday FROM ... but this would require changing all my scripts.
Anyone?
