Yes it does. (Before reading Sam's book) I was unaware of the existance of MySQL earlier. The only ones I was (somewhat) familiar were DB2 and Oracle.

The example I downloaded were from Sams Site (Sam's Beginning Databases) .. Since it did not run, I posed the question and I assumed varchar2 exists in MySQL.
