Thank you Chris. I have a few versions installed, and do not know which is running. Should I try mysqladmin -u root -p shutdown from the bin of each version? Regarding your alias in .tcshrc called mysqld, what is an alias, how do I create one, and please tell me just what calls the tcshrc (configuration?) file?
