Problems to connect

Hi,

I want to connect with my Database, now i'm working with a script the sentence to connect to my DB is...

$AUTH_DB_URL = 'mysql://root:root@localhost/auth';

can anyone explain what means each part of the connection sentence, and why it don't connect the connection data is_

DB SERVER "localhost"
DB USER "root"
DB PASS ""
DB "intranet"
TABLE "users"
