ERROR 1044:

Hey

i am a relatively new user to sql....the version installed by me is 4.0.20c.
when i try to access the default database mysql using the use mysql command i encounter the following error

ERROR 1044: Access denied for user: '@localhost' to database 'mysql'

please help.....and thanks in advance.
