max_allowed_packet don't let to work normally

Hi guys!

i have mySQL 4.0.24 and have no access to server configuration itself.

So WOULD YOU ADVICE what should i do when my scheduled script working with mysql encounters with "Got a packet bigger than 'max_allowed_packet'"
while restoring some table.

I've tried mysql --max_allowed_packet=32M to run this script but without any success.

Guys i need automatically executing script not a manually one.

Any ideaz would be VERY VERY appreciable.
