mysql error 2003: can't connect to mysql on "host_name" (10060)

I have a mysql database on a network(netware 6.5) server. all our workstations are windows xp.

I can connect to the database from a workstation with sp1 installed but NOT from a workstation with sp2 installed.
I've tried to configure the sp2 firewall to allow the port number (3306) to connect but it still won't connect. I've also tried to connect with the firewall 'Off', but again no joy.

Is there any other configuration settings I need to change either on the server or with the win xp sp2 workstation to allow it to connect.

any help greatly received.
