Web based Mysql connection

Hello, I am new to MySQL and PHP, I have done some studies and in the process of developing a CMS for a friend, I did it locally and all seems to be working fine. I would like to upload the site to my my domain using same setting but I keep receiving connection problems. Can anyone assist me with procedure for connection to webbased mysql dbs. I have already created the databases but can not my pages to the mysql datasource.

here is excerpt from the error: Database connection failed: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (46)
