Start mysql server problem

Hi,

I'm very new at mysql and committed huge blunders after having installed mysql. In short, it ran nicely until I started mucking around with the passwords and was left with no privileges at all. The situation was so dire I thought reinstalling would give me a clean slate to start over with - no such thing.

Ever since Mysql simply won't launch. Whenever I try I get a

[myComputer:~] andreako% cd /usr/local/mysql
[myComputer:/usr/local/mysql] andreako% sudo ./bin/mysqld_safe
Password:
Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /usr/local/mysql/data
STOPPING server from pid file /usr/local/mysql/data/myComputer.local.pid
050522 14:46:20 mysqld ended

I deleted mysql from 'usr/local' and reinstalled the package but keep getting the same error. Is there more to delete?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Greg
