Re: getting MySQL up and running
I am also a newbie and have a similar problem. I am running Windows 98 SE.
I have had a bit of success looking at "MySQL Reference Manual::3:1 Connecting to and Disconnecting from the Server"
At least something happens when I
1. goto mysql folder
2. goto "bin" folder
3. run "mysql"
Apart from if I try to use the mysql control centre I keep getting something about hosts and roots and logons which frankly I just do not understand.
I've tried using the control MySQL Control Centre and I just keep getting:
ERROR 2003: can't connect to MySQL server on localhost
This is all a bit beyond me really. With MS Access (which I've been using for 5 years) I just click on the icon and hey presto I can start doing things like creating tables and queries. Can anybody tell me how I get a similar start up screen to the one I get with MS Access?
