host can't connect

I'm getting pretty disgusted with this install. MySql is on a Win2003 web server and if I want to run phpBB or a blog, it seems I need it for those programs. I don't want it after the weeks of trying to get it to run on here, but I don't know what else to run in its place.

I can't connect to it no matter how often I install with various options. I went thru the instance redo just now and now the damn host it's on can't connect. I've tried with TCP/IP and without, just a named pipe.

Isn't there a simple way to create and use this program.

I'm not using localhost for anything. I did add it to the hosts file just in case. I have multiple nics. it's it really necessary to use 127.0.0.1? it doesn't recognize that, the host name, the FQDN with host, etc. what does it take to just install the damn thing so other programs can access it and run?
