MySql Sever Has Gone Way

Hi,

While going to put the data of size 8.83 MB into longtext field its showing the error message "MySQL server has gone away".

Apparently it seems to me that the error is occurred due to the large size of data.

Is there any config file (like php.ini of PHP) in MySql where I can specify the data size limit or how this error can be removed.

The used MySql version is 4.0.20a
