I created a shared folder on the Windows box called /backups and also created a user account called sqlbackup with the password mentioned in the Cron script....just like clockwork the compressed backup file (around 1.8 MB) showed up in the /backups folder on the Windows box at the correct time mentioned in the script.

The file had an .7z extension....not sure how to restore it if the need ever arises.

Now to test the email part of the script....I need to edit the script file that Cron runs to take out the # at the beginning of the line and enter my email address....can I use the vi editor to do this?
