Well, it's great when things work the way they are supposed to.

I edited the script file and put in my email address and once again, just like clockwork, I received a 2 MB file....backup.7z.gpg....in my email with the following message:

"Here is today's GPG encrypted snapshot of the churchrecords database.
Encrypted using 'Name of Previous IT Person' PUBLIC KEY: ED0B4EC8
If you have received this in error, please delete the message."

Is there some clue in that Public Key that will tell me how to decrypt the file....I suppose also that I could comment out the line that does the encryption?
