MySQL fixes a lot of bugs, including vulnerabilities, in each release. Each release is cumulative. For example 5.5.33 contains all the bug fixes that you have right now in your 5.5.31 release plus those we added to make the 5.5.32 release plus the ones we added to make 5.5.33.
Currently the most recent release of version 5.5 is 5.5.38. Upgrade to that and you will be as covered as possible.
