Hi Rick! - Thank you very much for your time and patience.

First of all - i am not sure if i was clear on this one: we allready did the update to 5.1 a week ago. The last errors are on 5.1 allready. I installed the same 5.1 download on both machines.

>First, I assume F?rstaller and F³rstaller are supposed to be Fürstaller; is that correct?
Yes, correct.

I did a "select hex('Fürstaller');" on both machines, and both bring back 81 for ü.
+----------------------+
| hex('Fürstaller') |
+----------------------+
| 4681727374616C6C6572 |
+----------------------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

my Codepage on both machines is 850 (DOS-Latin-1), which seems not to bad, as according to http://www.kostis.net/charsets/cp850.htm 81 seems to be ü in 850.

>In the process, you lost a record on the Slave.
Before restarting the replication i entered the command manually by simply copying the exact query from the errormessage to the mysql prompt - which works without an error.

Conclusion:
1. Validate that you do/don't have garbage on the Master. (HEX...)
It is "garbage" if 81 means that. But as far as i see, 81 is perfectly right for ü in CP850
2. Figure out why it replicating 'wrong'. (mysqlbinlog)
I am just getting familar with mysqlbinlog - i come back with the results soon.
3. Rebuild the Slave. (Re-dump and load)
I did that a few time, but i get the old Errors soon when replication starts.
>It is unclear where in these steps the upgrade to 5.1 should occur; certainly not before step #1.
That did allready occure a week ago (of course before step #1 ;)

Thanks again for your help!
