The confusion here is that "command client" phrase.
"mysqld" and "mysql" are commands (or, rather the names of programs) that you can enter into the [Windows] Command Prompt.
mysql is the program that gives you a command-line interface to your database(s). (Workbench gives you Graphical ways to do the same things).

IMHO, we work in a Precisionist industry. The words that we use to describe things really do matter. It would seem that your instructor, like so many others these days, is sadly missing the point.
