I now have an issue of characters like ö not showing properly when they were fine before (table1 is from a cms with latin1_swedish_ci collation and displays all properly in any browser but not in phpmyadmin). The table2 was initially created by WordPress using and is its default utf8mb4_general_ci.
I guess this may be not be on topic for this thread, but any ideas welcome. Perhaps convert table1 to utf8mb4_general_ci before running the update query? If it is likely to help I would appreciate any help on doing so.
