Thanks very much for the replies, Peter & Rick... Appreciate it. I was under the impression that one (text or varchar) was better for memory optimization where various length strings is concerned. In other words, when only 25 character entries are made on the same system that 450 character entries are made on a fairly frequent basis. The 'book' was not too specific so I'm still looking to find an answer.
