Re: ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

Peter,
The three occurrences of root were created by the process xampp (lampp) I used when I installed Joomla so I don't know why there are three and which ones I can remove, if any.
I created the user mythtv recently and there is only one occurrence of the name in MySQl. Using phpmyadmin I can log into MySQL with user mythtv without any problem, but when I try logging in directly from a command line I get ERROR 1045.

Something I notice is that in the user table there are two occurrences of a user "Any".
The first line the host name is "%", password "No" and Global privileges USAGE.
The second line the Host name is localhost, password "No" and Global privileges USAGE.
All the other usernames in the table the password column is "Yes"
What would be the purpose of "Any" and why is the password column "No" ?
