partitioning after and in 5.1.*

Hi,

Any advice on this issue will be highly appreciated.

We have a table with around 15,108,000 records and increasing daily by around 1700 records.

In the process of enhancing querying time from this table, I was thinking of applying partitions on it.

Is that a good idea?

If yes, I am aware that the mysql version we are using is 5.0.84 which doesn't support partitioning. So we need to upgrade to mysql 5.1. Will this have any complications on existing sql stored procedures or applications?

best regards,
