What do you hope to gain by PARTITIONing?
How many rows in the table (eventually)?
Show us the SELECTs -- without them, no judgement can be made.

Because of certain inefficiencies in opening a partitioned table, and in locking procedures, I would argue against even 100 partitions.

I have yet to find a performance argument for using any partitioning technique other than RANGE. Please tell me more about your application. Maybe you have a good "KEY" example.
