MySQL Command Line Client will not open after new installation

I have installed MySQL 4.1 and am working with PHP 5 nd Apache 2.0.52.

The connection via PHP to MySQL was working previously but then MySQL crashed since then I have been completely unable to get into the Command Line Client.

When opening it I enter my password and it just beeps and closes the window.

The services menu show that it is still running.

I have completely removed all aspects of MySQL (I think) and reinstalled the software but having the same problem

Any suggestions would be great
