MySQL missing mysql.socks

A. I can't run MySQL because mysql.socks does not exist
B. I cannot remove MySQL with yum because it can't connect to local MySQL database because, you guessed it, mysql.socks does not exist
C. Because my host is lame, RackForce, they use FC1, and Plesk, which uses a legacy version of MySQL, and since MySQL is not working, guess what, I can't use Plesk to update it

My options are to:

A. Solve the problem myself, god knows I am trying
B. Pay my host a most likely obscene amout of money to do it for me :(

My question is, should I find the legacy version of MySQL and try to install it from source, though even the thought of this scares me. Or just try to replace mysql.socks, somehow... Plus I don't recall what version of Plesk I had installed, but I suppose I could find out if that would prove to be pertinent information. Well any help is appreciated, so thanks in advance for saving me from paying my host to fix something I can with the help of FedoraForum! :)
