Is the MySQL service listed in the services control panel? Also, has your data directory been installed? It should be in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.1\data Note: the data directory may be hidden -- verify that all folders are shown.

Please try to start the service and then look in the application event logs (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427 ) There should be some kind of event logged.

Also, stop all virus scanning and firewall software which might be interrupting the install process. To confirm, please install 5.0 or 5.1...not 5.5.

...good luck and I'm hopeful the event logs will give us a little more info.
