MySQL Forums :: Install :: Error Nr. 1045 Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (Using password: NO)

Well, I seem to have overcome it on my machine after hours of trying.

I followed some of the steps above after the initial failure.

1) I manually deleted the set up folders i.e. C:/my programs/MySql etc
2) I used windows task manager to turn off any applications or services
3) I think I then used control panel to unistall MySql
4) Then I went to C:\documents and settings\all users\application data\ folder and deleted the MYSQL folder and its contents that I found there.

I then reinstalled MySql from the downloaded windows installer package.

This time it went right through and finished the security settings.

Oh, I am using windows XP

What frustration!
