Re: Can't get MySQL 5.5 to install on Windows 7

I've had nothing but trouble with the installation of 5.5.10 on Win7 x64.
(it's funny how MySQL just seems to work on Nix based systems)
On windows either the service refuses to start or the configuration wizard fails to set the security permissions causing the setup to fail.

While looking for a solution I found a lot of topics on various forums describing problems with v5.5.x. on Windows, It looks like the 5.5.x package(s) are either broken or need some serious messing around to get them going properly.

I've tried numerous suggestions and fixes, in the end I got so fed up with the whole process I installed version 5.1.56 and it worked without a problem. It may not be bang up to date but it works.
