It's not clear to me what you mean by "the old configuration file." Do you mean the old my.ini? There's no possibility of that, because this is the first installation for this operating system, not an upgrade. The old my.ini is accessible from a different drive, but I can't imagine any way MySQL could find it.
I hope you're referring to one of the files in directory that contains the database, but I don't know which one.
