Can I install 5.1 on Windows 2012?

Hello,
I have a bit of a dilemma. We have a new server with Windows 2012. On this we will run our administrative systems and our intranet. Some tables will be replicated or uploaded to our web host and some the other way around. The web host runs MySQL 5.1 but according to the documentation 5.1 is not supported on Windows 2012.

To my dilemma: If I install a newer version of MySQL i.e 5.5 or 5.6 will I have a lot of compatibility issues? If I try to install 5.1 on our server will it run without problems? Maybe someone has tried this before.

It feels like we are going to get compatibility issues either way so I would be happy to get some advice.

Best regards,
Micke
