MySQL service fails to start

Hi! My apologies for the newbie post, but I am frustrated and don't know where else to turn. I am trying to get mysql 5.6.2 installed on Windows 2008 Standard 32bit. The installation seems to go ok, and then when the msi launches the configurator, I am able to get to the point where the service is started and the service fails to start. I have seen other posts referring to the error log, but I do not find any such log. There are no *.err or *.log files in the MySQL Server 5.6\data directory. I see some errors in the application log in Event Viewer-- "Plugin 'InnoDB' init function returned error" and "Plugin 'InnoDB' registration as a STORAGE ENGINE failed". Also: "Unknown/unsupported storage engine: INNODB" and the most insightful message of all: "Aborting". Can someone please help?
