OK Barry to answer your quesions of me :
1."Are both servers running? Which one is on which port?">>Only the version 5.6 is up and running right now on port 3306. Here is the error I get when I try to log on to it.

2."How many mysql services are there?">>Barry there are some 9 instances of mysql in Services.[this includes the v. 5.6 which is running] Try AS I might I cannot delete the other 8 instances. How do I do this??
