man.at last the connection is made.
i was looking for the solution to the following error
"mysql_connect(): Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client"

i'm using windows nt,apache 2.0.55,mysql 4.1.14,php 4.4.1

i followed all of the remedies mentioned in the threads untill i struck mr mglatts's thread.then i did the following.

-i followed the step1 exactly as he mentioned (mr mglatts)
-i then followed step 2,kind of, i only changed the old root password to a new password using MySQL Administrator
-i then shut MySQL server and apache and then restarted them, first apache then mysql server
-lastly i updated the root password in my connect.php file which i use to connect to mysql.

and that's it.everything seems to work fine uptill now.
