I have seen several complaints about problems downloading, so I decided to try it out myself. This is what I did

1. I started Firefox and cleared all my private data, cookies etc

2. I went to http://dev.mysql.com/

3. I followed the "Downloads" link to http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/

4. I followed the "MySQL Community Server" link to http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/5.1.html

5. I went down on that page and picked a platform and package "Linux (x86)", and followed the "Pick a mirror" link

6. I get a login/register page, but ignore it and follow the link "ยป No thanks, just take me to the downloads!"

7. I pick a mirror, and follow the HTTP or FTP link

8. The package is now downloaded

It could of course be made easier, but the MySQL team at Sun try to earn a living from software you can download for free, so I hope you can excuse that the web pages try convince users to buy a subscription, if would benefit the user,
