Barry,

Thanks for your input. Sorry for the slow reply - I have been distracted for a few days...

I also have event_scheduler=ON in the my.ini

I am testing for a running event scheduler with SHOW PROCESSLIST. If I start it manually with SET GLOBAL event_scheduler = ON it does show up as a "waiting" process. But if I restart mysql is is not running at all.

It's my understanding that what you are doing (event_scheduler=ON in the my.ini file) is the correct method, but it's not working for me. Other changes to my.ini take effect, so I'm sure I'm editing the correct one.

I have the same problem on both my production and testing servers. Both were installed from the xampp package.
