How do i reinitialize auto increment

hi friends ,
i have created a table called student (stid ,stname,stmarks) where stid is primary key and auto increment. But after deleting some records i want to re arrange my stid but i am unable to do so .
Can anybody please tell me how can i re initialize my Auto increment field.
