Will you be implementing this yourself? For any application to work and to add value to your business you will need technical input as there are many ways in which you can takle this from, but the most important thing is to understand the wider scope.
You should approach the development in phases - Design, Testing, Implementation and break each phases into smaller steps - rather then build a big application that does everything from the outset.
Perhaps you should start by splitting your Customers, Suppliers and Products records and working out what the relationship is between these - i.e. what is the flow of information. Then work out what functions you need to automate and reporting you need to generate.
I have done such an application for the Builders Merchants industry
