Database schema design

I am working on a website like fantasy football. It has most of functionality same as fantasy football website. So i learned PHP and Mysql. I would like to use phpmyadmin as database. will it work? beacause i want to create database for users and players and players score and points earned by them.
Now, i have no idea how to design schema. i want to work step by step. i will first create user database and then players. i dont know which engine to use and why? if you know databases related or just like fantasy football pls help me with this.
