Blob vs. File Storage....?

So...

I am currently storing files as blobs in an innodb table for an archiving product I have. One database is already 30Gb and will be getting larger. I am working on compression but I wanted to see what everyone's thoughts were on this sort of storage. i like the idea it is all compact and I can easily restore and point my app to the DB and it works....but it is getting BIG

Thoughts?
