There are a zillion ways to implement HA and vrrp is only one possible component of them. vrrp in and of itself is not an HA solution except for the vrrp router itself. If you want to use vrrp to build an HA solution for something other than the router then you must couple it with other software. Since our servers are all Linux I will probably look at something kernel-based like IPVS coupled with vrrp. I may write something or hack something already out there. For Linux there are actually many different ways to build HA. From heartbeat, mon, pirahna, keepalived, ipvsman, vrrpd, ldirectord, ultramonkey and many others there is a full spectrum of solutions. I'm not sure about what may be available for other platforms.
