I haven't noted the exact figures, but iirc it seemed truncated every 255 characters. For example with 300 characters sent, I got 45 back characters in the mysql client (300 mod 255). With 600, I got 90 (600 mod 255 ...)...
Please note I tested it on MacOSX (using the prebuilt binaries), maybe it's related ...
