Hi Mike,
Thanks for the posting.
Firstly my webhost has now upgraded to MySQL (5.0.67-community) for me which is great.
However, I still cannot connect from MSQL workbench but I also cannot connect using MYSQL administrator either and this gives a better error message:

Could not connect to the specified instance

MySQL Error Number 1045
Access denied for user 'MySQL_DBUser'@'i-MY_PC_IP.my_isp.net' (using password: YES)

If you want to check the network connection, please click the Ping button

My webhost told me they tested it and have been able to connect to the DB remotely. I went into the cpanel of the hosting account and under the MYSQL section not the user has been granted ALL privelage on the database I have created.

(Although I am confused why MySQL administator does not ask for a DB name like when connecting through a script).

Thanks for any input.
