Workbench will not start

I had an older version of Workbench, which was working fine, but which I uninstalled along with the rest of Mysql because of critical problems with the database. I reinstalled the latest community versions of everything, and, although that has resolved the Mysql problem, I now find that Workbench will not run. When I try to start it, it refuses to start and I get this error message:

MySQL Workbench Unexpected Error
MySQL Workbench has encountered a problem
Could not load type 'MySQL.Utilities.IFindPanel' from assembly 'MySQLCsUtilities, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null'.

I am running on Windows XP. The Workbench version I am trying to run is 5.2.44. I checked its installation program's MD5 checksum before running, and it ran without any error messages. I have both prerequisites installed (Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile and Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 Redistributable).

Googling the above error message turns up precisely nothing. Does anyone have any ideas?
