Creating Local Instance Server problem

Hi,
I am new to MYSQL workbench. I am trying to create a "New Server Instance" for my local system in work bench. I am he administrator on my laptop. so I check "localhost" and next page:
hostname: localhost - port: 3306
username: root
pw: (the password to login to my laptop) - I never entered pw at the MYSQL set up process .

but it can't connect.

it says:
Can't connect to MYSQL server on 127.0.0.1 (10061)

would you help me please?

I would appreciate any help.
