Has this been resolved yet? I'm having the exact same problem, but I'm not using VMWare. I'm running MySQL on a Windows Azure virtual machine (which is basically the same as Windows Hyper-V. It's running a new clean installation of Windows Server 2012 and MySQL 5.6.
