Sam,

well, I thought your server instance profile was set up correctly but the service not. But it seems it's exactly the opposite. Open the instance manager (from homescreen) and select your server instance. Then switch to the System Profile page and look what statements you have in the MySQL Management section. There should be something like

sc start mysql56

and similar for stop and query.
