MySQL Workbench for Mac

The MySQL Workbench that I had been using started acting up more and more, exiting with an error or getting silly results. So I decided to download a newer version, 5.2.47. But it's even worse. I can connect it to my DB but even the simplest query ("select * from <tablename>") and it exits with an illegal-access exception.
I did notice it says it's a 32-bit application. I'm running Mountain Lion, which is 64-bit but I thought it should run 32-bit apps just fine.
Any ideas or help would be appreciated.
For now, I'm back to the old Query Tool and Administrator but it makes me feel like I traveled 5 years back in time.
