I will also add that I'm using Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, but don't know if that matters (I think the Workbench is only 32-bit). And when I'm doing my design, I don't send it to MySQL (forward engineer) until I'm ready to export it to the database server (which is also run on my local machine for development purposes). So I'm not working with a live connection when I'm using Workbench designing the database.
