Scott,

neither the MySQL installer nor the installers for the MySQL WOrkbench or MySQL utilities touch any of the system libraries and only changes there can cause a BSOD. So, there's very likely something else broken and only appears by accident to correlate with any of the product installations. What's even more suspect is that you get the BSOD during installation. I'd check my system for unwanted and/or broken installations (namely: viruses, system libs and such), disk corruption and similar things before touching anything else on it, in such a case.
